Dog Sled Safari in Northwest Lapland

Come and enjoy our wonderful dog-sled safari in the beautiful winter scenery in the Northwest of Lapland. You will drive your own dog-sled team of 4-6 dogs. The daily distances are between 25 and 40 kilometres, depending on the weather conditions and your own condition during the safari. During the breaks you can admire the untouched landscape of great natural beauty all around you. You can take photographs or just let the silence surround you. The nights along the way will be spent in simple wilderness huts or in wooden Lapp tents.

Day 1

Arrival at the Kittilä airport, a transfer to Muonio - HARRINIVA Holiday Centre (approx. 1 hour). Meet up with the safari group and a short introduction to programme of the next days. Dinner in Harriniva, overnight in cosy log cabins near Harriniva.

Day 2

After breakfast you will be provided with the safari equipment. You will meet the dogs, pack the sleds and you will be taught how to handle the sled. Start of the safari.        

Day 2-6

The safari will take you through the beautiful winter scenery close to the Pallas-Ylläs National Park in West Lapland. Overnight stays in simple yet cosy huts with sauna, but without shower, WC and electricity. You will look after your dog team and help with preparing the meals together. Breakfast and dinner will be prepared in the huts, the light lunch by open fire in the wilderness. During the safari you will make short breaks as needed. The route will take you through the beautiful forest scenery, partly close to the treeless fell-region, over frozen lakes and along the rivers.

Day 6

During the afternoon you will return to Harriniva and in the evening have a farewell dinner. Overnight in cosy log cabins near Harriniva.

Day 7

After breakfast a transfer to the Kittilä airport.
